Linking TVs, set-top boxes and DVD recorders to the internet will be necessary to drive uptake of IPTV and IP video, the company stated. âAlthough todayâs newest, leading-e

Filipinos in Second Life: pipedream or growth market?
The Inquirer.net has a story about the Cebu-based metaverse development company called Avatrian that is looking to bring Filipino businesses into Second Life. I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, the Philippines is largely on the wrong side of the Digital Divide. Looking at ITU statistics from 2007, the Philippines has 2.37 internet subscribers per 100 inhabitants, only 1.1% on broadband. (In comparison, South Korea has 30 subscribers per 100, all of whom are on broadband.) Given

Keep that number in mind when the election comes 'round in November...I think you'll find

Cablevisionâs Wi-Fi plan: whatâs behind it?
Harold Feld has written an interesting analysis of Cablevisionâs push into wide-area Wi-Fi networks. He writes: âCablevisionâs wifi strategy has several things going for it. Indeed, according to DSL Reports, deployment is well under way already. That gets Cablevision subscribers hooked on this form of mobility for their wireless services before Verizon can

Effective Presence Marketing in Social Media

A Better VOIP Client
I dislike phones. Not so much the phones themselves, but their interface. The basic interface, a bunch of numbers and some special keys, is bad enough, but when this interface is extended it's always a mess. I don't think I've ever seen two phones with the same mechanism for programming the speed dial buttons and the conferencing features are always hopelessly arcane. Even something as simple as putting someone on/off hold can be ridiculously complicated. This is one of the reasons I prefer VOI

Camera Van Exposed

Most people in fact have never seen one of them in action. So imagine my surprise as traffic slowed to 15 MPH in a speed zone which
New Budget Bill for Electric and other Updates
Our 6 month update of our electric bill came this past week. Last year the bill had been $104 per month. It was increased last fall after we got the new AC unit to $124 a month. That was okay mainly because we had used it as supplemental heat that kept us from leaving the natural gas boiler for the radiators on as long. That meant the gas bill had actually dropped from $165 to $126 at the same time. Now that weâve been through a winter with very little electric use the budget is set to adj
